Lose Weight, Gain Back Your Life 2

Losing weight has nothing to do with will power or lack of. Fanatical Dieting, Emotional Eating and Conditioning are the 3 most common patterns for obesity. I have mentioned in past articles of a highly successful technique that I use with clients and in my workshops. Remembering that all you need do is to DO IT!

It often works where nothing else will, usually rapid, long lasting and gentle, no drugs or equipment involved, easily learned by anyone and can be self applied. As Emotional Eating is the second most proven reason for obesity, I think this should be the first place to start, and it may well then work on fanatical dieting and conditioning.

The method is EMOTIONAL FREEDOM TECHNIQUE, made of a set up, basic recipe and Affirmation Statement.

THE SETUP

The most important part of the technique is the setup. To do this we say an affirmation whilst tapping or rubbing a particular spot. For the purpose of this exercise I am going to show you the karate chop set up. If you have a look at your hand, palm facing you, look at the side of the hand from the top of the pinky finger down to the wrist. Just above the wrist is a flesh part where one would normally do a karate chophave you found it. If so this is the area you will tap using your pointer and middle fingers. Okso now that we have all of that out of the way I want you to tap you karate spot for practice.

BASIC RECIPE - The Meridians

The meridians are as follow, try and find it on your body as I mention it. Practice a little so you become familiar with them.

1. Eye Brow this is the beginning of the eyebrow above the nose

2. Side of Eye this can be found the bone at the end of the eyebrow

3. Under Eye on the cheekbone under the eye

4. Under Nose- under the nose above the top lip

5. Chin the crevasse between the lower lip and the chin

6. Collar bone just under the collar bone

7. Armpit halfway down under the armpit

8. Thumb under the nail of the thumb

9. Pointer finger bottom side of the nail facing the thumb

10. Middle finger - bottom side of the nail facing the thumb

11. Little finger - bottom side of the nail facing the thumb

Repeat 1 to 7

Whilst tapping your karate spot as mentioned above you say an affirmation as listed below.

Using the Emotional Freedom Technique:

* SET UP followed by the statements below

* BASIC RECIPE

* AFFIRMATION STATEMENT

Then repeat the exercise again for each statement. You may feel you dont need to do some of the statements, however, experience has shown me from workshop participants and private clients that undertaking each one will be of great benefit. You will see that all statements starts with Even though.and ends with I deeply and completely accept myself or similar, add this ending where done is provided.

Ways To Boost Metabolism, Fast

There are many ways to boost metabolism but I'm going to zoom in on just 8 ways that I think are the most powerful......

First, get to know your metabolism.

It's the rate your body converts food into energy and burns it off as calories. The faster you burn off calories, the more weight/fat you can slice off even if you eat the same amount of food.

For all of us, we use up this kind of energy (calories) in 3 ways:

  • 60-70% to power our body for all its daily functions, to keep us going. This is otherwise known as basal or resting metabolic rate
  • About 30% in exercise and other physical activities
  • The remaining 10% in eating food since the processing and digesting that's involved requires energy. This is also known as the thermic effect of food

The 8 fast ways I suggest to boost all these 3 areas of your metabolism are:

1. Do Cardio Exercise

It's the most powerful and direct way to crank up your metabolic rate as when you exercise, you need energy to fuel your body to do the job.

Go for running, jogging, swimming, biking, dancing.....as these are excellent cardio exercises that use up lots of energy and hence burn off more calories.

Cardio for at least 30 minutes per session for 3-4 times or 4-5 times per week, which can elevate your metabolism for several hours even after you've finished exercising.

The best time to do cardio exercise is in the morning so you kick start your metabolism for the day.

2. Do weights

Start weight training and do 3-4 times per week for 20-30 minutes per session, to promote your muscle growth. As muscle is metabolically active (it burns calories even when you're resting) and burns more calories than fat, the more muscle you've, the more calories you burn, while you're at rest.

6. Eat More Lean Protein

It takes more energy for your body to digest protein than carbohydrate or fat. Hence, you should include some lean protein such as lean chicken and fish in your meals.

7. Eat Fibre

Food with lots of fibre also gives your thermic metabolism a boost. High-fibre foods like fruits & vegetables, beans and whole grains (like brown rice, whole grain pasta/bread) simply take longer to digest and therefore help burn more calories.

3. Thirdly, an effective weight loss program should include regular elimination of parasites. I remember some forty years ago when I was a child, my mother would regularly give us deworming medication. It is the presence of these parasites that interfere with our nutrition and cause us to actually gain weight. If you notice children in famine stricken countries who are malnourished, they have huge bellies. These children have parasitic infections.

4. A good weight loss program should not be expensive. Recall that people were much slimmer in the past and there were living on simple diets. They did not have to rely on expensive drugs or medications. They simple ate the right foods at the right time and in the right amounts.

5. A great weight loss program should not rely on drugs, not even for elimination of parasites. There are ingredients in our homes that can be mixed in the right quantities to get rid of these parasites. These ingredients are basically herbs, spices, extracts and organic constituents. Furthermore, weight loss drugs should not be used. They are just a waste of time and money. These drugs eventually lose their effectiveness and people simply go back to their previous weight and will have to try the next "miracle weight reduction" drug.

6. Finally, an awesome weight loss program should involve exercise besides good nutrition. However exercise should not be an expensive one. It could be a membership at a gym or even exercising at home or the park near your home.

4 Preparatory Steps Before You Lose Weight

Step one in the weight loss process is to consult with a Doctor. If you haven't had a physical, you need one. You need to have your blood pressure checked, your weight recorded, your BMI (Body Mass Index) calculated, your blood sugar checked and your lipids evaluated at a minimum.

Before a single problem is encountered you need a diet coach. This person will encourage you, help you solve problems, and hold you accountable. A professional like myself is a good choice but not required.

A close family member or friend could do it. Another dieter in your program or someone from your church will work also.

You will report your weight change weekly. Your coach will not be a critic but will encourage you, so choose wisely.

Now choose a diet. It needs to be one you can eat for the long term. No severe restrictions of food groups. Enough calories, 1200-1600 per day are necessary. Check multiple resources like a dietitian, Doctor, library, online or commercial program for copies of diets. Can you learn how to prepare the meals? Does it have enough of the foods you like for you to stick with it? All diets work the same, they use a restriction method or a counting method to lower daily calories.

You will need a system to track your eating. How much or portion sizes and tracking calories is essential to long term success. It is easy to forget the nibbles we take all day. I knew the cook in a restaurant who often said,"I don't know why I am over-weight. I never have time to eat even one meal." This was true, but the cook nibbled all day and much of it like deep-fried potatoes, breaded shrimp, pieces of cheese were quite high fat and the total added up to more calories than 3 meals would have contained.
