Obesity is quickly becoming an epidemic with 65% of Americans being overweight. Men and women alike have tried to various diets with some degree of success, only to gain it all back or more. From some negative posts to others on the protocol, a few points:

A) "Anyone can lose weight on a 500 calorie diet" - hey... try to DO a 500 calorie diet, the hunger will win out and you'll break the diet in less than a week. I don't know why, but hCG seems to dispense with the feeling of hunger.

B) As mentioned in the video - there are a lot of people knocking hCG, saying it does nothing to burn fat. Look, I've done 2 day water fasting - and didn't throw off any ketones. (Ketosis: a stage in metabolism occurring when the liver converts fat into fatty acids and ketone bodies which can be used by the body for energy.)

The FACT that this protocol shows moderate ketones in the first day of the VLCD would indicate that hCG DOES promote lipolysis in conjunction with the 500 calorie diet. Taking this into account - one could argue the point that the body will take the path of least resistance between burning fat or feeding off of lean muscle mass.

C) The FDA doesn't approve of hCG for weight loss. 1st, you'd need more fingers than you were born with to count the number of drugs the FDA DID approve that ended up killing thousands of people over the past ten years. (can you can Fen-phen, Vioxx, etc) 2nd, it's not illegal as there are more & more clinics offering versions of the protocol. (and again to the point of lean muscle loss and organ damage - the legitimate clinics do periodic blood panels, liver function tests, etc - and to suggest that anyone doing this protocol would sustain organ damage is just plain wrong, given a duration of 26-40 day increments) 3rd, to suggest clinics offer it to maintain a steady stream of clients for the revenue - some clinics allow users to take supplies home, and suggest visits twice a month. Not exactly a cash crop, also - in contrast to other diet Rx's - hCG is a time limited expense, and relatively inexpensive compared to most other diet medications on the market. 4th - since there are several physicians using hCG for weight loss & I've yet to hear about any of them being sued for offering a program that didn't work - or for causing injury to a client... I'd have to conclude that anyone who says it's "unhealthy" would have to be wrong. If it was proven to be detrimental to your health, it'd be made illegal.
