The Cardiologist Way to Lose Weight

Studies have shown that there are many Americans who are overweight or obese. This can be blamed on processed foods, sodas and those who cooked it but the one really responsible is the person who bought it.

Nobody went up to the individual and forced the customer to buy a Big Mac. It was a matter of choice and this will just add more calories into the persons system.

It doesnt take a doctor to tell the individual that one is overweight. This can be seen in the mirror or on the weighing scale. At one point or another, the person will realize that this has got to stop before something bad happens.

Luckily, there are many diets to choose from that can eventually make those excess pounds go away.

One good example is the South Beach Diet that was invented by a cardiologist by the name of Dr. Agastson. This works in three phases and involves a lot of discipline on the part of the person in order to lose weight.

The first two stages are done over a 2-week period respectively. This will involve refraining from eating things such as bread bread, potatoes, baked foods, fruit and any type of alcohol including beer.

In the third week which is the beginning of phase 2, some of the food that were not allowed to eaten can be returned to the normal eating habit. These will include fruits and vegetables.

The last phase is all about maintenance. This means the individual will have to maintain the progress that has been accomplished in the first month after trying this diet until this becomes normal for the subject to do.

The person should drink a lot of water and stay away from alcohol. Instead of drinking coffee, the individual can have tea, some low fat yogurt or milk and fresh juices.

Most of dietary programs suggest exercising to help in losing weight. The South Beach Diet doesnt need that since eating less will force the body to speed up the metabolism. In any case, there is nothing helping the body by sweating it out in any physical activity.

Does this require exercising to help in losing weight? People who have been interviewed have claimed that this is not needed to get rid of those extra pounds. This is because the body will be forced to burn more calories because of the limited intake.

The South Beach Diet is one of the most popular diet programs in the market. This is available in the bookstore so the person can read and learn how losing weight can become a reality.

Need To Lose Love Handles Fast?

Do you want to lose love handles fast? Follow the simple instructions given here. You probably know by now that love handles are the accumulation of excess fat around your abdomen. It occurs due to a sedentary lifestyle in a genetically predisposed person. It is not that each and every obese person will eventually develop love handle. Those are genetically prone (have similar history in their family members) to having a pot belly. There are several options available to help you lose love handles fast.

Exercise is one of them- the next best thing you can do is undergo a surgical procedure (but remember there are risks).

As with other weight loss regimens, reducing love handles requires three basic steps. These are - Balanced diet (most of the calorie should come from protein and carbohydrate, avoid foods that give you empty calories like alcohol, and fast foods), general aerobic exercise that will take care of fat burning and your heart condition too, and lastly exercises that focus on toning your abdominal muscles.

Exercise 1

Lie down on you back on a smooth, flat surface. Keep your arms beside your body. Now lift your legs up as far as you can. Be careful; do not bend your knees. Lift about 2 feet from the ground. Hold the position for 5 seconds. Then slowly put them down again. Do the same procedure again. Start with 5 reps initially. You can gradually increase the reps.

Exercise 2

Again, lie down on the same surface on your stomach. Try to lift your legs from the ground. Do not bend your knees. Lift your legs for about 1- 1 feet from the ground. Hold there for 5 seconds. Gradually drop your legs. Do 5 reps in a single sitting.

Exercise 3

Lie down on your back. Keep your feet straight in the air. Cross your hands over your chest. Try to bring your elbows to your knees by flexing the abdomen. If you have a history of low back in jury, do not go for this exercise.

A combination of diet, exercise and the right amount of sleep habits are the answer to losing love handles fast. The role of regular exercise is insurmountable in achieving the goal. If you don't change your eating habits, drink enough water, and get the right kind of exercise your efforts will be for not. You have to combine diet and exercise to get the right results.

The best way to lose love handles is with a balanced diet and some good stomach exercises.

Calorie Shifting - The New Weight Loss Sensation Sweeping the Nation

Calorie Shifting is becoming one of the fastest growing weight loss sensations because is works on a theory that actually makes sense. Most low calorie, low carb, low fat, diets basically fail because your body realizes one thing when you are on one of these diets: It realizes that you're starving yourself (in a matter of speaking) by taking in low amounts of calories. Your body's natural reaction to this is to slow down your metabolism, stop burning calories, and actually to start storing fat! It's a protection we have to make us survive if we were in fact, starving

Calorie shifting is a way to keep your body confused and to keep your metabolism from slowing down. They way it works is you are constantly rotating the food types you eat each day fooling your metabolism so that it continues to burn calories and fat. Your body only knows what has happened in the past, so basically your metabolism is based on the foods you ate and calorie intake from the past few days. Eating foods using the calorie shifting theory is best so that your metabolism doesn't get used to any specific routine. Basically, you're keeping your body's metabolism on it's feet and by doing so, you will not only burn all of the calories you are taking in each day, but you will also start to burn fat which is exactly what you want to do.

The best part about this diet program is that you are not left feeling like you're starving because you are supposed to eat four different times per day. This keeps you feeling full all day and you are essentially taking in less calories per meal. The software system that is available for doing this program comes with an online diet generator. This diet generator asks you to choose from over 40 different foods that you most likely eat every day and in just seconds, it creates a calorie shifting meal plan for you. This meal program is for 11 days and is by Fat Loss for Idiots. You can lose up to 9 pounds every time you do this diet program. The way it is supposed to be done is start the program, follow it to a tee for the 11 days, take 3 days off where you can eat whatever you like (let's be honest here, what this means is whatever you want that's still a bit healthy...don't run to the fast food joint and order 4 big macs). After the 3 day break, you then start the diet all over again.

The 3 day break is actually part of the calorie shifting diet. You continue to confuse your body's metabolism during this period. I recommend doing this diet at least 3 times or until your desired weight loss goal.

Learn more about how you too can use the calorie shifting theory to your advantage to lose weight and look great this year at http://www.calorieshiftingtheory.com Enhance this amazing program by doing a little Turbulence Training.

Technology & Weight Loss: Putting An Online Tool to Use

Because the Internet allows so many millions of people to be connected to any single site, function or feature, many programmers and marketing folks have put their heads together to come up with some really neat online tools. Many of these tools are not only useful and convenient, but they are often times free to use. We like free! Some examples include area code locators, mortgage calculators, metric conversion charts and many, many more.

Today I ran across a free tool that is available to us courtesy of the US Government. The Deparment of Health & Human Services, National Institutes of Health, makes this tool available. The tool is called an Interactive Menu Planner and it's worth spending a few minutes exploring.

The tool's original intent seems to be as a menu planner that one would use on a daily basis in order to calculate the total calories, total fat and total carbohydrates for all three meals each and every day. Because the interface is a little bit "clunky" and the tool takes a while to plug in an entire day's meals, I don't think it's really practical to use every day. However, that doesn't mean that it's not useful. Load it up in a browser and take a peek for yourself while I point out a few things that I found interesting.

The first thing you need to do is to select the number of daily calories you plan to consume. The number can range from 1200 to 2000. There are no guidelines as to how many calories you should start with so use common sense to select a number. Factors such as body size (less the fat you want to lose), type of occupation, amount of daily exercise, and age should be taken into consideration. Your doctor may have a suggestion as well.

Once you've selected a daily calorie target, select "Breakfast" as your first meal. Mentally segment your daily calories into three fairly equal parts. If you've selected 2000 calories, you should try to aim for around 600 - 650 calories per meal, leaving a few left over for an evening snack. Move over to the right where the food itself is located. Start at the top and select a food item from the food groups you typically eat for breakfast. It doesn't matter if it's what you ate today, or are planning to eat, the education is in the experience.

As you select a "food item" you must remember to also select the number of servings in the next column. For instance, if you typically eat two kiwi fruit at breakfast, select "1 Kiwi" from the "food" column and select "2" from the servings column. The thing that I really like about this tool is that it updates after every item is selected. Continue on through breakfast adding items as you go. You may select multiple items from any of the food groups. As you continue, you will see the menu for breakfast grow longer for each added item.

Try to ignore the totals on the left-hand side until you have finished selecting each of the items that make up your typical breakfast. Once done, look at the totals to see how much damage you've done. If you find, like I did, that you need to make some adjustments to each meal if you want to get three meals a day in, you can remove some of your items or reduce the number of servings. To do so, simply select one of the items already in your breakfast menu and change the servings to zero to remove it completely, or just lower the number to reduce it.

Once you've set your breakfast menu, continue on to lunch and repeat the process. After you've finished your lunch menu, repeat the process for dinner. If you still have some calories left over, you can go ahead and treat yourself to a snack; if you exceed your total allowed calories at any time, a warning message will pop up.

There are a few things about this exercise that I believe are particularly educational. The first is the degree to which the daily calories can be thrown off by simple things such as beverages. For my breakfast I selected a bagel. I watched carefully as I slowly added a tablespoon of cream cheese and some jelly, thinking they would cause a dramatic increase. To my dismay, a couple teaspoons of jelly and a tablespoon of cream cheese added only 75 calories. It was the bagel that was the major offender, coming in at a whopping 320 calories!

I decided to see how much the daily totals would be affected by selecting a large glass of "Kool Aid" as a drink. I have children in the house and "Kool Aid" is available and convenient. But is it a good decision?

For my lunch menu, I selected "8 oz. Kool Aid" as a beverage. But wait, do you know how small an 8 oz. glass is? I plugged in "2" servings just to be safe. To my horror, that single beverage selection came to 232 calories, or just over 11% of my daily total! I quickly "zeroed out" the "Kool Aid" and opted instead for water.

Another shocker was the cream that I use in my morning coffee or tea. Drinking two cups of black coffee adds only 20 calories to your daily menu. However, if you lighten up those two cups of coffee with a couple of tablespoons of cream each, you can add nearly 100 calories to your diet. A teaspoon of sugar adds only 15 calories, and that's typically the item we'd be inclined to abandon first.

The second thing that I realized is that, with a little bit of planning, a person can still eat a substantial amount of food and stay within their daily caloric budget, especially if you choose wisely. I'm a substantially sized guy with an active lifestyle who should be able to consume 2000 calories per day and still lose weight. Using this tool can help me do so without starving and without busting my budget.

Again, I don't think it's terribly practical to suggest you use this tool every day, but referring to it every now and again can help you ascertain the average number of calories you are consuming each day, make sure you aren't making any bad menu decisions, and help you to win the battle of the bulge!

Weight Loss Tips That Work

Losing weight isn't rocket science; eat less, weigh less, sounds easy. Unfortunately, there are many variables that determine how quickly or slowly you will lose weight. While there are thousands of weight loss tips available to you, not all of them work. Here are some everyday tips that are known to make a difference to your weight loss efforts:

1) Raise Your Metabolism By Eating More

It is true. Cutting your calories back too drastically will actually slow your metabolism and slow your weight loss efforts. Diets providing less than 1000 calories per day may actually provide too few calories to keep your weight loss rate up. You are likely to lose more weight if you graze, eating five or six small meals daily. Eating small meals frequently throughout the day also keeps your insulin levels steady so that you do not get blood sugar crashes that sabotage your best intentions.

2) Drink Water, Eliminate Soda.

One of the easiest things you can do is to take soda, even diet soda, off your menu, and replace it with water. Replacing soda with water is a double advantage; you forgo the calories in the soda and drink enough water to keep your metabolism running high. Water helps you to feel full, as well as flushes out toxins and keeps your kidneys running well. When your kidneys are working well, your liver can stick to its job of metabolizing fat. Without enough water, your liver has to pick up the kidneys slack, filtering blood rather than metabolizing fat. If you hate the taste of plain water, consider bubbly water (seltzer) with lemon or lime. Some of the new flavored water works well also, but you will be drinking quite a lot of it, so make sure that you are comfortable with the flavoring additives used.

3) Plan Your Snacks.

Snacks are everywhere; in the office, at the gym, at school. If you do not have a plan before you head out, it is likely that you will succumb to the temptations, especially if you get tired or bored. Plan ahead so that you have tasty snacks comparable to the temptations found in the vending machine. Finally, make sure that you eat something small at least every four hours to keep your hunger under control.

4) Add Some Weights

Cardio is the easy part. Well, not exactly easy, but certainly familiar. Most of us have no problem jogging or doing aerobics for our exercise routines, but lifting weights will actually ramp your metabolism up for longer than your cardio routine. Add two-20 minute weight sessions a week, working with a qualified fitness professional at first if you have never used weights before. Remember that muscle weighs more than fat, so do not get upset if you initially see the scales nudge upwards a bit. As you add the muscle your resting metabolism will raise, and in no time you will see the results not only on the scale, but in your clothes also.

5) Buy a pedometer.

Studies have shown that people that take 10,000 steps a day lose weight without having to make extensive changes to their eating habit. Just think how quickly you will tone up if you do both.

Hypnosis For Weight Loss - Can It Really Work For You?

Hypnosis can work for you to lose weight. I'll tell you more about it in this article.

Many people don't believe that you can lose weight with hypnosis because the mass media distorts their view of this success medical practice.

You watch television or maybe attend a local gathering and they have a stage hypnotist guaranteed to get the audience laughing when you see that guy acting goofy. A snap of the fingers and he doesn't even remember a thing! This is pretty much timeless comedy, don't you agree?

So when someone tells you that you can lose weight through hypnosis (or hypnotherapy as the medical establishment prefers to call it) then it sounds like some kind of joke.

But I tell you it isn't. Let us first understand how weight loss works then we can understand how hypnotherapy can help us.

You see, weight loss is really an addiction. "But surely you need food, so how can you be addicted to food?" - you might say. I agree with you, but weight loss is not an addiction to food. It is an addiction to excess food. And when you try to give up that excess food, it is just like giving up smoking.

That excess food is your daily comfort. It's what keeps you happy and away from the stresses of life. But deep down, you know that excess food is making you feel unwell and slowly killing you. Deep down, you know that you need to stop eating that excess food - in fact, you are not even feeling hungry when you eat that excess food so you know that your body doesn't need it but you just "can't help it".

Well, a hypnotherapist can help you. I'm not saying that they are a miracle cure but they are one of many weapons that you should have in your locker to fight being overweight. A good hypnotherapist will help you apply logic to the situation and not just resist excess food, but hopefully you won't even want to eat the excess food anymore.

Cardio Workouts Are Not the Best Way to Lose Body Fat

Below is an interview about cardio workouts done by Craig Ballantyne. This presents a great example of how cardio workouts are typically misused by exercise enthusiasts in their attempts to lose body fat. You'll never get those six pack abs if all you keep doing are the same boring cardio routines over and over. Expand your thinking, and shrink your waistline!

Everybody assumes that you must do endless hours of cardio workouts to get ripped six pack abs. But this is simply not true. In fact, if you quit wasting so much time with boring slow cardio routines and change your workouts much more strategically, you will get those six pack abs much faster than you thought was possible!

Let's look into how one female cardio workout fanatic finally lost her excess belly fat and revealed her six pack abs with the help of the innovative Turbulence-Training workouts!

Craig: C-J, let's start with a bit of background on yourself and what your goals were when you discovered interval-training and strength training.

C-J:

Ok, I'm a female in my middle 30's and your typical office professional who spends many long hours in front of the computer.

With regards to fitness and nutrition, I grew up realizing the importance of being active and staying healthy. So while I've stayed active for most of my life, I recently realized that I still had a lot to learn about both training and nutrition.

When I first discovered the Turbulence-Training Workouts, I was looking for an improvement in body composition. I had been introduced to weight training a year or so earlier and had made some really good progress, but had gone past that "new stimulus" effect, and really needed something different to kick my results up again and break the plateau.

Craig: How were you doing before?

C-J:

Well, during grad school and working full-time I let my fitness slip for the days and evenings tied to a computer, and the joys of eating at restaurants once or twice a day. I had gained about twenty pounds and was at my heaviest weight ever at about 160 pounds. Once I finished night school, I added exercise and nutrition back to my priority list and lost those twenty pounds, mostly from running five days a week.

The 2nd stage started when I discovered weight training. I was at about 142 pounds at the time and about 28% body fat. After about six months I lost another 8-10 pounds and 7% body fat.

So when I started the Turbulence-Training program, I had already made decent progress as I was down to about 133 pounds and 21-22% bodyfat.

Craig: What were your workouts like before Turbulence Training? Why did they not work as well? How have you since improved upon those workouts?

C-J:

Before Turbulence Training, I was a "same-pace" cardio fanatic, and I ran 3-5 miles three times a week and strength trained using a four day body part split routine. This plan worked ok for about six months or so, but then I just stalled out and the plateau set in. I'm not exactly sure what the culprit was, but I just knew that I needed a different type of workout program to try.

So when I first started strength training and interval workouts I was skeptical that such a short workout only three times per week would be good enough. I soon realized that strength training and intervals kept the intensity levels higher during EVERY workout, so the 3 days and 2 super sets were actually much more efficient than my four day body part split and three days of running. I also got on an interval training program and reduced my slower "same pace" cardio runs to about one day a week.

Craig: How have the interval workouts and strength training helped you improve your shape? What benefits and results have you achieved? What are your improvements compared to your before stats?

C-J:

I am definitely stronger, leaner, and faster than before.

Strength wise, I can finally do chin-ups and pull-ups, something I've always wanted to be able to achieve. I have also improved my 5k time by two minutes. I also finally have the muscle tone and athletic body shape that I have always wanted.

When compared to my before stats, I have had to throw the scales out the window and use the mirror and compliments I've received as my guide since I have gained a few pounds of lean (but sexy) muscle so the scale weight hasn't changed much even though my body composition has improved. Also, my clothes have gotten looser and smaller and I'm also making fairly significant strength and speed gains. I can also actually see a visible six pack of abs now, which has always eluded me!

Craig: How do you feel in terms of energy and strength?

C-J:

My strength gains are most exciting to me, since I typically have high energy/endurance. I particularly like how my strength gains have transferred to improved running and biking.

The amount I can lift in the gym just sort of evolves, but when I can climb hills on my bike that I used to be forced to walk, and finish 5k runs in times that were once way out of my reach, it feels pretty damn good!

Craig: What features do you like about TT-style strength and intervals?

C-J:

It is fun, time efficient, and intense. Plus it works like crazy! When I am in the gym, I know that I am making the most efficient use of my time.

Craig: Did you change your eating plan with the guidelines?

C-J:

Not a whole lot, but some. I was on a pretty good eating plan when I started TT strength and intervals, but I am constantly learning about making better food choices and looking to change things slightly here and there. Incorporating a post-workout recovery shake and getting as much variety as possible have been the biggest changes in my nutrition habits since I started the program.

Craig: What would you say to others that ask you about your workouts? Do you get a lot of comments from people?

C-J:

When people ask me about my workouts, I try to hold back some excitement so I don't come off as a wild fanatic and overwhelm them.

I have had quite a few comments from others in my gym, either noticing how hard and smart that I am working out, or complimenting me on my progress. One woman even pointed me out and said "I want thighs like that!" to her friend. How cool is that!

It is always enjoyable to see friends or family or even co-workers that I haven't seen in a while because they always remind me of the great progress I have made. It's also exciting that I can show off my flat stomach now too with the sexy little six pack!

The best compliment I get now is in the form of imitation. Others want to know exactly what I do and ask me for tips to help them. They see that it works, want to know how I have done it, so they can try to apply it to themselves.

Craig: Thanks C-J! Keep up the great work with your time-saving Turbulence Training fat-loss workouts.

A Daily Checklist for Fast, Healthy Weight Loss

All weight loss success comes down to doing the same things over and over again, on a consistent basis. Simply put, when you replace bad habits with good ones, you'll lose weight. The more bad habits you replace with good ones, the sooner you'll see results.

In order to truly achieve fast, healthy weight loss you'll need to replace nearly all of your bad habits with good ones. Below you'll find a "checklist" of the 7 things you'll need to do every single day to lose weight and look better fast. You might want to print it out and keep it with you as a simple reminder of what it really takes to drop your unwanted body fat quickly and safely.

In a very short amount of time you'll see that the following 7 habits can make a huge difference in the way you look and feel!

1. Review your goals.

Set goals and review them daily. This helps you stay motivated and on the fast-track to weight loss success.

2. Eat mostly natural foods.

Cut out processed foods from your diet and replace them with fresh, natural whole foods. Here's a good rule-of-thumb: if it can't be found somewhere in nature, don't eat it!

3. Eat 5 or 6 six small, healthy meals per day.

This serves two purposes: it keeps you from getting hungry and overeating at any one meal... and it keeps your metabolism elevated, helping you to burn more fat throughout the day.

4. Limit sugar intake.

Avoid all foods with high sugar content. This includes "natural" foods like pure fruit juice and honey. If you need to sweeten something, use the natural, low-calorie sweeteners stevia and xylitol. Both can be found in health-food stores.

5. Drink water throughout the day.

Drinking lots of water is a "must" for fast, healthy weight loss. It'll keep your energy levels up, help you avoid hunger cravings, and greatly assist the fat-burning process. If you don't like drinking plain water, try sugar-free teas and flavored sparkling water drinks.

6. Do some form of vigorous exercise.

Exercise at a moderate intensity level for 30 minutes to an hour most days of the week. Do something you enjoy so it won't seem like a chore. Both aerobic exercise and strength training are vital to any good fitness program so be sure to do both.

7. Have fun.

Find ways to increase the enjoyment level of everything you do. Try healthy new foods and recipes, partner-up with a friend, join some form of sports or fitness group, take part in online weight loss communities, etc. This is the key component to long-term weight loss success because if you're not having fun, you won't stick with it!

Put The Snack Down And Step Away From The Freezer!

Life is certainly not easy, anything that you want is difficult and things you do not want are sometimes damn near impossible. It is so easy to gain excess weight, and it is pretty enjoyable doing it! It is a pain to get rid of the extra weight though, and it is a truly horrible experience.

If you think about it, putting on weight is easy and enjoyable. You just eat more and more, but it is pleasurable! Dieting however is always a nightmare.

Recent studies have shown that our bodies do not react to dieting in the way that we thought it would. Your body will start to learn about any regular dieting patterns, and will prepare itself for these lean periods.

Another problem with our modern lifestyle is the convenience of fast food. Almost everyone these days is rushed off their feet, they just do not have enough time to work, look after the kids and to eat properly. This just makes fast food so much more of a tempting idea than cooking.

Treats can also be really damaging to your waistline. Snacks contain lots of calories and little to no nutritional value. The only really healthy snack food is fruit, and then you should only eat them at meal times.

You can kick the habit if you really want to, you just need to work hard enough. Once you have broken the habit you probably would not miss whatever it is you have just given up anyway!

When you're up in the air hanging on to two small pieces of rock for support, it sure becomes a much daunting task than compared from the ground!

Running: All you need is just a pair of good running shoes and you're ready to go. You can jog anywhere and everywhere, so if you want to burn more calories, try running up slopes and even through uneven land. You're sure to enjoy it even more if you were to run through a reservoir or through a forest.

Jumping Jacks: These jumping jacks can be done anywhere, so do it in the comfort of your own home or while watching the latest Heroes episode. To do this well, you should start in an upright position with your feet together and hands by your side. Start by jumping straight while moving your feet out shoulder-width apart and your hands coming up above your head. Do make sure that your core stays tight and that your actions are fast and controlled.

Swimming: Swimming involves the entire body, and the more parts of your body that is involved in the workout, the more calories you'll burn. Spend 30 minutes doing the breast stroke and you'll burn almost 400 calories. What's the best news of all? Your joints are entirely supported by the water so you won't have to worry about any high-impact injuries.

Why Massage Education is Deteriorating

Just by studying the surveys and reading the comments and feedback from massage therapy trainees and patients alike, you cannot help but deduce that the quality of massage education in many, if not all, areas is fast deteriorating. One online poll showed that only less than 30 percent of the survey participants thought they underwent good, reliable and effective training in their respective massage schools. Another survey showed that more than 50 percent of the total number of participants believed that their instructors fed them with more textbook knowledge rather than practical, actual techniques. A patient in Chicago, USA has complained that during her most recent massage session, the therapist rubbed a lot of oil on her body, pinched, poked and kneaded areas of her body so hard that she was left sore all over. The experience was too traumatic for her that she has already sworn off massage therapy. Such negative comments do not at all help the profession, which is supposed to have an important effect on a persons emotional, spiritual and physiological state and functions.

Experts believe that the deterioration of massage education is due to a lot of factors. For one, there are a lot of shady massage therapy schools that do not have the proper certifications. In the USA, for instance, it is highly recommended that a certain massage school has accreditation from the National Certification Exam for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCETMB). Secondly, there are also schools that do not have enough competent teachers, most probably because they want to save on costs, or hire many teachers but only at a low rate (and an instructor who somehow knows a little about massage is already considered good enough).

Thirdly, most incompetent schools only offer textbook knowledge and not many hands-on, on-patient methods and skills. Of course, hands-on training is more important since it will prepare the student cum would-be therapist on what to expect in real life situations. Fourthly, there are instructors out there who either do not have enough experience or are not exactly successful in their own private practices who try and teach the art of massage to others. Remember, massage requires a high level of expertise as well as a good understanding of the challenges involved and people who have failed or are not practiced enough may only convey limited knowledge.

The weakening of massage education is not only bad news for accredited massage therapy schools which try very hard to follow rules and accreditation requirements and give quality education and training but also for patients who now do not have the total guarantee that their therapists have been trained the proper way and have the right qualifications. Something should be done to address this problem, if only to protect the true essence of massage and its benefits.

Dieting Sucks? 5 Tips To Keep Your Weight-Loss Hope Going

Nobody likes dieting. Generally, a person may put on about 5 to 10 pounds a year. So what can a person who hates dieting do to keep off the excess weight?

Here are 5 simple tips to help you:

1. You Must Have The Right Attitude

When you are younger, you can eat whatever you like, anytime, and yet do not get fat. Yes, but do you realise that your metabolism then was working hard for you? Now, you cannot just eat and hope the same thing will happen to your body. You must be disciplined to moderate your eating habits. You must have that right attitude to pass that pizza and cheese cake.

2. Eat Only What You Need

Do not stuff yourself silly during meal time. Avoid those "all-you-can-eat" buffet, and during meal, stop when you fill slightly full. Do go for those fresh fruits as a rewarding dessert instead.

3. Be On The Move

If you hate to go to the gym like I am, but love to watch the NBA or PGA programs on TV, then don't just sit on the couch. Imitate the moves of your favorite players executing their moves. Just watch out not to break any of your furniture. You may want to bring your kids for a walk just after dinner. They will appreciate the talks and companionship, not to mention enjoying the fresh evening air and exercise.

4. Keep Cool!

Do you know that when you get stressed, the consequences can be detrimental to your health? You will smoke more, eat more and drink more. Just remember to take in deep breaths and count to 10 and your anger or stress will subside. Keep a cool head.

5. Remove Those Temptations

If you are easy prey to snacks like chips or crackers, then the best way would be to clear those unhealthy foods from the house. Instead, stock up fresh vegetables and fruits in your fridge. They are good snack alternatives to your chips and crackers.

Here you have it, 5 simple tips. Not to worry if you can't do all 5, just choose one that you are confident of achieving. You can try the others slowly.

Remember, you must have fun on your weight loss effort, and most important, be happy. Yes, you can still lose weight easy even when you are not undergoing any dieting program.

Goal Setting for Weight Loss

One of the best things to do when trying to lose weight is to use goal setting.

Unfortunately many people do not use goal setting properly and end up failing in the end. When you want to lose weight the first thing you need to determine is how much weight you want to lose. You have to be realistic which is one of the principles of goal setting. You want to make sure you set goals that are challenging but also realistic.

You also want to set a date by when you plan to reach your goal weight. Remember healthy weight loss is around 1-2 pounds a week. So if you want to lose 30 pounds in three weeks you are setting yourself up for failure unless you are planning on chopping off a body part. Remember that the basics of weight loss are nutrition and exercise. It is in these two areas where you want to set a few goals.

When you plan to lose weight try setting any of these goals:

Nutrition

Set a goal to stick to a meal plan everyday.
Set a goal to plan out your meals for the whole week.
Set a goal to keep a food journal where you record everything that goes into your mouth. The accountability alone will have a dramatic affect.
Set a goal to clean out your pantry and cupboards and get rid of all junk food and as well as any sweets, and fatty foods.
Set daily goals to drink 8 glasses of water a day. You will be hitting the bathroom a lot but you will not be as hungry, and the extra exercise going back and forth to the bathroom will be good for you.

Exercise

Set goals for how many times a week you want to exercise.
For each workout set goals for your attitude and effort. This will keep you from showing up to the gym just to say you did but you really didn't push yourself while you were there.

The Scale

Set a goal to only weigh yourself once a week so that you do not become scale obsessed.

Everybody can fluctuate 2-3 pounds a day so there is no sense getting stresses out by normal weight fluctuations.

Goal setting helps you break down the overall desire of losing weight into these tiny manageable steps which you can focus on and experience victory after victory. Goals also provide a source of motivation when it is lacking. They are those tiny little butt kicks that get us going when we are feeling sluggish. Good luck.

Weight Loss Tip #11: What's Stopping You From Weight Loss?

One of my favorite success quotes talks about having a single, overriding objective and making everything else in life bend towards helping you to attain that objective.

Well I've got a challenge for you.

I am literally daring you to make your weight loss goals the single, overriding objective to which you will make other things bend this month.

Am I asking you to put your weight loss absolutely first? Before Family? Before Work?

Certainly not!

Of course there will always be things in your life that will be more important to you than this.

However, I do believe that the list of things more important than your own weight loss and fitness is a short one. I also believe that even many things that are more important can be modified to help accommodate this part of your life.

There's also a point to be made that without your health, nothing else matters anyway.

I mean think about it. Obesity is either a root cause or an aid in almost every major deadly disease and condition. I think that calls for your fitness and weight loss program to be just a bit of a top priority.

Wouldn't you agree?

I thought so.

Now if you haven't been prioritizing your program I don't want you to go beating up on yourself. That's not what this is about.

Instead of dwelling on what you may not have done, put in some extra effort this month to find ways to make SURE that you are making the time and resources available to yourself that you need to stay in shape.

  1. Schedule Your Exercising, Keeping it Simple and Easy

This sounds oh, so simple. But you wouldn't believe how many people I talk to who "try" to get a workout in "if they can get around to it", and never do.

Look, the reality is that most busy people these days will not be able to get to the gym or even be able to workout at home every day. And the good news is that you don't have to.

Get out your planner and really take a hard look at your schedule. If nothing else, you will need to find 3 to 5 days in a week that you can set aside at least 30 minutes for some cardio. Of course you will get better results with 5 days, but it is more important that you are doing something than doing a lot.

Try to plan activities that are easily accessible and even fun if you can. A cardio funk class at a gym that's near by. Jogging while you walk the dog around the neighborhood. Sticking your favorite cardio DVD into the player and "working it out".

Do whatever is easy, simple, and hopefully fun. You want to set yourself up for success, so don't try and complicate the issue.

  2. Plan Your Grocery Shopping for Weight Loss

Create a "master list" of all of the healthy foods that you'll need to get through the week eating healthy. Go and get them all at once and them stock them at home.

This way, you will always have healthy food options that will help you in your weight loss goals.

You also won't be caught off guard with the "munchies" and nothing to snack on in the house but your children's (or significant other's!) junk food. You can also plan to take certain snacks to work with you that can help you stay away from the temptations of doughnut-and-pizza-peddling co-workers.

  3. Take Advantage of Weekend Time

The fact of the matter is that for most people, the weekend is the only time when they have complete control over what they do during the day. Why not take advantage of this time to make sure you get in a little jog or some aerobics or even biking in the morning or afternoon when you are having some down time?

Look at it this way: you'll be knocking out 2 days of workouts before the week even begins. Then, based on your personal program, you will only have to worry about doing it again 1,2, or 3 days.

This will go a long way to take some pressure off of you so that you won't feel like you failed just because you got busy for a day or two and truly just could not get around to doing anything for your body.

Using this tactics will go along way in making sure that you are able to stick with your program and not quit---even during times when your schedule is hectic and keeping up is rough.

  4. One Day at a Time

Most people won't tell you this, but having the discipline to stay in shape---especially in the eating department---is something that usually is gradual and takes some time.

And I know this from personal experience.

It actually took me a year or two before I could really stick to a diet and exercise plan without fouling it all up. And to be honest, it is still a challenge even for me.

Therefore, there is absolutely no reason why should feel defeated if you mess up on any given day. Just get back on the horse and commit to yourself that you'll get it the right the next; and then the next; and then the next. And when you slip up again. Get over it quickly and do better the next day.

I know this all sounds pretty simplistic. That's because it really is simple.

What makes it so challenging is that ugly four-syllabal word called C-O-N-S-I-S-T-E-N-C-Y. Its what separate people who achieve from those who don't in virtually any endeavor.

But the bottom line of it all is that if the days that you do the right things far out way the days you do the wrong things, you will be truly successful in the end.

And yes, it really is that simple.

Fat Burning Furnace Review - How to Achieve Maximum Fat Loss Fast?

Is the Fat Burning Furnace ebook really that much different from other fitness guides online? This ebook is written by Rob Poulos who used to be an overweight person. He claims that he has found the best methods to trigger fat loss and boost metabolism, but is that true? This article will discuss some of the sections I found in Fat Burning Furnace.

1. Diet and Nutrition Information

Rob says that a good diet contributes to at least 80% of the fat loss results you see, thus it goes into detail about how you should eat to maximize the effects of your workouts.

2. 15 Best and 15 Worst Foods

Rob then puts the foods that he recommends most, and the foods he wants you to stay away in a separate component called 15 Best and 15 Worst Foods. This part of the guide makes it much easier for me to focus on eating the right foods to trigger fat loss, and I simply have to avoid all the foods listed as the 15 worst.

3. What Makes Fat Burning Furnace Different From Other Guides?

The core of this ebook focuses on using workouts to trigger fat loss and metabolism increase. Yet the workouts he recommends do not require a significant amount of effort, and take a fairly short time than those recommend by other guides. Rob explains to you why doing many reps is not the best way to lose fat, and then states the specific number of rep each set of your exercise should contain. He has also chosen to use all multi-joint exercises, as he says that such exercises are much better for fat loss.

4. Conclusion

This ebook has helped me progress slowly from a beginner to the more intensive workouts I am able to perform today. This guide is most unique in terms of the type and frequency of workouts it recommends, and has slowly helped me achieve a ripped body.

Sport-Specific Interval Conditioning

In many sports, a high level of aerobic fitness is necessary for optimal performance because it promotes endurance and assists recovery in "stop-and-go" type sports such as ice hockey. To improve aerobic fitness, coaches have traditionally prescribed long and tedious sessions of continuous sub-maximal exercise for athletes, regardless of their sport-specific metabolic demands.

Most team sports are not characterized by continuous sub-maximal movement speeds BUT/ rather these sports demand periods of high-intensity effort interspersed with maximal bursts of speed and periods of almost complete inactivity. Take soccer for example, a player may move at a moderate speed for minutes while following the play and then will be forced to sprint at their maximal pace for the ball. After that, the player could be faced with a stoppage in play of up to a minute due to various factors.

Considering the endless possibilities, is long-duration, moderate-intensity aerobic training the best method of conditioning these types of athletes? In my opinion it is not. What then are the alternatives? Let us consider "aerobic interval (AI) training" as a more beneficial manner at increasing the aerobic fitness and sport-specific muscular endurance of an athlete in a "stop-and-go" team sport.

Aerobic interval training provides a more sport-specific training intensity, a greater training stimulus that can be applied to the muscles used in the specific activities, and may also be an advanced training method for endurance training athletes looking to overcome a plateau in their aerobic fitness levels.

The intensity level of this training technique is much higher than the intensity level commonly associated with aerobic training. The exercise stimulus may in fact be very damaging to the muscle in its initial attempts and can result in muscle soreness in the days following the training session.

Therefore, prior to beginning a "full-blown" training regimen of AI's, the athlete should develop general muscular strength and endurance and perform a short "lead-in" program of general aerobic exercise (2 weeks; 3 sessions per week; 20 minutes; high-intensity; sport-specific activity).

The initial (first week; 2 sessions) AI training sessions should be conservative in training volume (3-5 intervals) to accustom the muscles and joints to the intensity. As well, a thorough and specific warm-up should be performed as well as pre- and post-exercise flexibility routines.

AI training involves alternating bouts of exercise with recovery periods. A sport-specific mode of exercises is performed for a short duration (2-5 minutes) and followed by an equal length rest interval. High-intensity work is the key factor in this type of training. By incorporating rest intervals, the athlete can work at a much higher (and more sport-specific) power output in comparison to traditional aerobic training.

Determining the intensity of the exercise bout is definitely the trickiest component of the training prescription. The "work" pace should elicit the individual's maximal heart rate by the end of the exercise bout. For example, if a 20-year old athlete (max HR = ~200) ran a 3-minute interval then their 10-second heart rate count should be ~ 33 beats (33 x 6 = 198) at the end of exercise. An example distance for a 3-minute running interval would be ~ 800m. Basically, the athlete wants to pick a training intensity that they believe they could hold constant for up to 10-minutes.

Obviously, picking the intensity can be very subjective unless the facility has "high-tech" training equipment. As the AI intensity should correspond to about 95-100% of the individual's VO2 max, if the athlete has access to high-tech training technology then a more accurate training prescription may be allowed.

Providing an adequate and complete rest interval is paramount! The rest interval must be of an extremely low-intensity so that sufficient recovery will occur and the next work interval can again be performed at a high power output. Do not sacrifice the quality of rest because this will only reduce the benefit of AI training. A reduced recovery will prevent lactate clearance (lactate = muscle fatigue), phosphate energy (CP & ATP) recovery, and improvements in aerobic metabolism. Remember this is not continuous training!

Many athletes that have traditionally trained with only long-slow distance workouts may have difficulty with this concept at the outset of the program, however these athletes will soon become more comfortable in taking a full-length recovery interval.

At ~ 2-minutes of maximal exercise the contribution of the anaerobic & aerobic energy systems are nearly equal and at 5-minutes the contribution is 30% anaerobic & 70% aerobic. Therefore, the high-intensity, short-duration nature of AI allows sport-specific demands to be applied. Training at such a high-intensity recruits the fast-twitch muscle fibers. These fibers are predominantly responsible for anaerobic performance, BUT/ by improving the aerobic system of these fibers, they will be able to recover quicker and be ready to contribute to sprint-performance with less rest time.

The adaptations in the body will be occurring predominantly at the muscle level. The muscle fibers will increase their ability to extract and use oxygen, BUT/ the improvements on oxygen delivery (heart and lung adaptations) may be minimal. The athlete will also improve their ability to tolerate lactate (lactic acid buildup in the muscle and blood) and will be ready to start ANAEROBIC INTERVAL training in the pre-season.

ANAEROBIC intervals match precisely the demands of the sport. For example, a hockey ANAEROBIC interval would be maximal exercise for 30-45 seconds followed by 1-3 minutes of recovery. ANAEROBIC INTERVAL training prescription needs to be addressed in an article of its own, perhaps in the near future...

AEROBIC INTERVAL training prescription

: 2-3 minutes & equal recovery

: progress to 10-12 intervals

: @ 95-100% VO2max; don't go TOO hard! (8-10 min pace)

: ~ maxHR at end of interval

Warmup Work Interval Recovery Interval

Fluids should be available at all times throughout the training session to help combat dehydration. Unfortunately many athletes may not feel comfortable consuming a high-volume of water OR sports drink while undergoing this intensity of training. To compensate, ensure adequate pre-hydration (make it a habit to drink sufficient fluids daily) and excess post-exercise fluid intake. The athlete should use AI to train the body to consume fluids during rest intervals of competition. Remember the importance of being well hydrated (dehydration can cause a reduction in endurance).

WARNING:

Your legs will feel like JELLO upon completion of this workout for the first time! The muscle glycogen (carbohydrate energy) stores will be extremely depleted and muscle fatigue will be high also due to lactate accumulation. Therefore, take caution in the scheduling of the remainder of your training day and the following day because of reduced neuromuscular coordination and fatigue. However, full recovery should occur within 24-48 hours. Make sure to consume a high-carbohydrate snack immediately after exercise and to maintain a diet with sufficient carbohydrate foods and fluids.

Therefore, AI training should occur in a sport-specific manner. The intensity and duration of the intervals should increase in specificity as the pre-season draws closer. Therefore, AI's train the body to perform repeated intervals of high-power outputs with the end result being an increase in sport performance.

Weight Loss Body Wraps

Weight loss body wraps have been all the craze this year. But, you're probably wondering if its really possible if they could work? How could body wraps enable you burn fat and lose weight? Sounds impossible, but read on to find out how.

The Science Behind Weight Loss Body Wraps

Weight loss body wraps enable a variety of processes which facilitate both inch loss and the ability to better metabolize fat.

The first process is called lymphatic drainage. This process is also incited during some types of special massage. During this process, the interstitial fluids (lymph) in your fat cells, is allowed to move freely and transports your fatty acids and toxins out of your body as waste. These fluids contain harmful impurities which your body has stored from the processed foods we eat and the air we breathe. Losing these fluids will allow you to lose inches immediately.

The second process is called lipolysis. This is the huge one. Most body wraps that you find on the internet and such, will not stimulate lipolysis. This is what identifies a true weight loss body wrap. Lipolysis is the breakdown of fat stored in your fat cells! By breaking down this fat, and stimulating lymphatic drainage and circulation, your fatty acids are carried out of your body as waste.

The third process is called micro-circulation. This is basically the blood flow through your tiniest of capillaries. The active state of this process is critical for weight loss body wrap to truly enable weight loss. Your fat cells are engrossed with miles of capillaries and for your fat cells to expel waste and toxins properly, your capillaries must be stimulated to circulate blood appropriately.

If you are looking for real weight loss body wraps, I'd recommend: Weight Loss Body Wraps

Weight Loss and Stress in Midlife Women

Weight gain is common in midlife women and isn't just the result of too many calories and too little exercise. Oh, if it were only that simple! There are many physical and emotional factors involved. Women gain weight for different reasons and what works to help one lose, might not do a thing for another. Maybe that's why "diets don't work". Weight loss plans need to be tailored to meet the specific needs of each individual. If you're saying, "No matter what I do, I can't lose weight", consider adding stress reduction to your weight loss program.

Stress and the adrenal glands play a major role in midlife weight gain. Briefly, the adrenal glands react to stress by releasing cortisol into the bloodstream. The kind of stress doesn't matter to the adrenals. It can be physical, emotional, environmental, bio-chemical or even imagined. Since midlife women experience stress in multiple aspects of life on a daily basis, cortisol remains elevated for sustained periods. It settles in the fat cells causing weight gain, typically around the middle of the body.

Elevated cortisol also effects thyroid function. And, it's no surprise that compromised thyroid function is associated with weight gain. High cortisol prohibits a normal response to the thyroid hormone signal which is sometimes called "thyroid resistance". This resistance impacts other hormone receptors like insulin, progesterone, estrogens and testosterone, requiring more hormones to create a normal effect. The connection between elevated cortisol and insulin resistance is yet another cause of weight gain. Stress clearly creates a vicious cycle!

To help balance cortisol levels and nurture your overworked adrenals, avoid stimulants, alcohol, refined sugars, carbohydrates, processed and fried foods. Eat smaller portions more frequently. Include lean, hormone free meats and dairy, vegetables, legumes, high-fiber grains, leafy greens and fresh fruit. Drink plenty of pure, fresh water every day to help flush toxins from the body. Utilize supplements and herbs to nurture the adrenal glands. And, take time each day to rest, restore, reevaluate and reinvent yourself for the next chapter of life.

While eating well and getting plenty of exercise are essential for good health, consider reducing stress and learning effective stress management techniques an important part of your weight loss program. Journaling, meditation, yoga, Tai Chi, self-hypnosis, guided imagery, breathing exercising and listening to soothing music are just some of the ways to support healthy weight loss through relaxation. It's also important to take time to address unresolved emotional stressors like conflicts at work and in relationships, feelings of guilt and unhealed wounds from the past.

For midlife women, losing those extra pounds means much more than looking better. Other benefits include more energy, better sleep and a reduced risk of hormone related conditions like elevated cholesterol, type II diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease. Obesity in midlife is also associated with a higher risk of Alzheimer's disease. Maintaining a healthy weight will add years to your life and enhance the quality of each and every day. You deserve it and you can do it!
